The
Bundesliga is set to resume play this weekend. Serie A are targeting a June 13
return to action after clubs in Italy’s top flight agreed to move forward with
plans to resume play this week. And for the Premier League, the date to mark on
your calendar could be June 19.
That
according to reports from The Telegraph and
others in England, with claims primary broadcasters BT Sport and Sky have been
told to be prepared for Premier League football to return beginning on Friday
of the third week of June a date now five weeks away.
If
that is the date of the league’s return, all ten games would then be played
between Friday the 19th and Monday the 22nd with no games overlapping or
scheduled during the 3PM Saturday blackout. Some games could be broadcast on
Youtube or free-to-air in the UK.
It
still seems far from certain that the league will be able to resume, but what
happens in German in the coming weeks will provide guidance and a further
framework for both Italy and England, and already this week Jürgen Klopp has
reportedly returned to Melwood.
There,
the manager and his key staff will now be preparing for a return to team
training that is expected to begin early next week though at the start of it at
least that training will be contact-free and with the players under advisement
to maintain social distancing.
In
related news, The Mirror claim Liverpool are
relaxed about the move towards returning to action and as a group are
determined to lift the Premier League trophy on the pitch this season only when
it’s safe to do so rather than seeing it awarded in a boardroom.
